In today’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Questions, Lucy Frazer MP, seized another opportunity to raise the profile of South East Cambridgeshire as an ideal area to test 5G technology. 

The Minister for Digital, Matt Hancock, responded positively to the question, paying respect to how ‘assiduous’ Ms Frazer has been in putting forward the case for the constituency. 

He acknowledged that due to having “amazing high-tech growth” as well as “its rural hinterland”, it is “an area where we can really test these technologies” and went further to say “I look forward to working with her (Lucy Frazer MP) and Connecting Cambridgeshire to see whether we can make that happen.”

Lucy Frazer commented following DCMS Questions, “I was pleased to have the opportunity to raise once again how ideal South East Cambridgeshire would be to be included in the early stages of trialling and testing this next generation of digital infrastructure. As the Minister acknowledged, I have been campaigning hard on this in recent months and I am very encouraged by his response today.”

In recent weeks, as well as meeting to discuss this issue with the Minister in question, Matt Hancock, Ms Frazer has also met with the Government’s Head of Mobile Infrastructure and 5G, Scott Bailey and Programme Director at Connecting Cambridgeshire, Noelle Godfrey.

Lucy said, “I am working closely with the team at Connecting Cambridgeshire and our next step is to bring together high-tech businesses based in the constituency, to work on and develop our application to be selected for the forthcoming industrial 5G pilots.”
