South East Cambridgeshire MP Lucy Frazer has called for improvements to rail services for Cambridgeshire and the wider region, as the bid for the East Anglia Rail Franchise closed this week.

On Wednesday 16th December, Lucy attended a Commons debate on the East Anglia Rail Franchise to stress the importance of securing “essential” upgrades to Cambridgeshire’s existing rail infrastructure. She also raised the need for the Ely North Junction upgrade to go ahead as soon as possible, as well as the doubling of track between Ely and Soham. Lucy joined other Eastern region MPs, who are working together to secure rail improvements for the region.

Speaking afterwards, Lucy said, “It is vital that Cambridgeshire gets the infrastructure it needs to continue thriving. Cambridge is unique in that it is a net contributor to the Treasury. To be able to continue delivering economic jobs, growth and investment, we need improvements to our rail services. Whoever secures the tender for the franchise, I want to see improved efficiency, reliability and necessary upgrades, including improving rolling stock to avoid service delays.”
