Sir Jim has welcomed the announcement of additional funding to support businesses and infrastructure in South East Cambridgeshire, the bulk of which will be spent on the Ely Bypass.
Greater Cambridge & Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has been allocated an additional £38m which it will spend on a variety of local investment projects including the long-awaited Ely Bypass.
Sir Jim commented: “This is fantastic news for Ely. I can retire happy now that our efforts to secure a bypass have succeeded. We have planning consent and most of the money so let’s get on with it.
By taking traffic out of the city the bypass will not only remove congestion but also allow radical redesign of the southern gateway.”
