Lucy Frazer, Member of Parliament for South East Cambridgeshire, brought parents, carers and Ely College management together to discuss the future of the school on Friday 20th May. This meeting, called by Ms Frazer, was primarily to address the change in the school’s sponsor from CfBT Schools Trust to Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) on July 1st, and to facilitate a dialogue between parents and carers of pupils and the new Trust.
Mark Woods, Chief Executive of CMAT, made a clear presentation about CMAT’s plan for Ely College going forward. Measures suggested included the introduction of a school house system; a drive in teacher recruitment; and remedial work on school buildings. Mr Woods also stressed the importance of positivity and pride in the school.
Ms Frazer says: “The meeting was a great success in prompting an open discussion with parents and carers of pupils at Ely College and the new sponsors, CMAT. It is clear that CMAT has experience in turning schools around, and has positive ideas for the future of the school. I look forward to seeing CMAT put these ideas into practise in the coming months.”
