I wanted to update you on great news for our healthcare locally.  

The Secretary of State for Health recently announced that Addenbrooke’s will share in a pot of £100m seed funding to develop its plans for a state-of-the art rebuild. 

This is the first step towards a complete redevelopment which could begin as early as 2025. The new hospital costs up to £900m to rebuild and would be part of a new system designed to integrate services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and would be located at the centre of the biomedical campus. The plans also includes provision for Addenbrooke's to provide an integrated system, making the sharing of data with local GPs easier, helping to create a modernised, world class hospital at the heart of our community. 

This is on top of the £100m announced to build a new children’s hospital on the Addenbrooke’s site.

This investment is in line with the Government’s plans to invest in new hospital construction across the country, with 21 hospital trusts sharing £100 million seed funding, totalling £2.7 billion overall. 

Also on the healthcare front at my regular catch up with Jan Thomas of the local Clinical Commissioning group earlier this month, I continued to re-iterate the importance of local hubs including the Princess of Wales in Ely. She shares my view that local centres are important and I hope that we will have increased services on offer at the Princess of Wales soon. 

I will continue to work hard to ensure that the new Addenbrooke's Hospital and the new children's hospital are built and provide the vital services that our community requires, as well as ensuring that the Princess of Wales hospital provides even greater services for our area. 

Other news...

I recently met with representatives from the Newmarket Jockey Club and Newmarket Rail Vision to discuss rail access across the region. Better rail across the constituency will take traffic off the roads, and make our area a more desirable place to live. The priorities of the project include a half-hourly passenger rail service from Newmarket to Cambridge including stops at Dullingham and Kennett, the restoration of the loop for services between Ely, Soham, Newmarket and Cambridge, as well as further and direct rail connectivity with Oxford and the West of England, London, Bedford and the North of England.

I look forward to continuing to work with all stakeholders, including our neighbouring MP Matt Hancock to support this project.
