2022 has not been without its challenges - the war in Ukraine, spiralling energy costs and our mourning of the death of our late Queen Elizabeth II, who served us with grace and dignity throughout her reign.
I have continued to work throughout the year, on your behalf to improve our bus, road and rail networks as well as local healthcare and education, amongst other things.
Many people have contacted me about cuts to the Stagecoach bus services. Throughout the autumn I fought, alongside other stakeholders to restore these services and I am pleased that these are now secured until the end of March, with £1.7m of government funds provided through the Combined Authority. I am now continuing to press the Combined Authority to ensure that these services continue after March. I continue to press the case for an upgrade to the A10. I welcome the £6 million now provided for a feasibility study to examine significant upgrades including dualling. I am opposing the proposed congestion charge for Cambridge City and parts of South Cambridgeshire which would mean that residents across my constituency would be charged to go to school, hospital and work.
Across our region healthcare remains a top priority. Addenbrooke's has developed plans to build two new hospitals on its site at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus - a children's hospital and a new cancer hospital. I am working with Anthony Browne MP for South Cambridgeshire to progress these important projects. Our Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely provides excellent local care and I am working with the Health Authorities to ensure that the rebuild progresses. The Princess of Wales secured government funding to expand its diagnostic services.
And improving our local education is vital if we are to improve life chances. Next year mainstream school funding for schools will increase - with an extra £44 million for Cambridgeshire. In addition Linton Village College is benefiting from the schools rebuilding programme.
I continue to represent constituents on their more local discrete issues - including working with the Say No to Sunnica Action Group fighting the Sunnica 2,500 acre solar farm application, and working with the Save Honey Hill Action Group to ensure appropriate mitigations for the relocation of the Waste Water Treatment Plan.
IN SOUTH EAST CAMBS AND PARLIAMENT
I was pleased to welcome groups such as the Burwell Trefoil Guild, Ashley Parish Council, Wicken and Bottisham Village Council and local schools including Burrough Green Village Primary School, Orchard Park Community Primary School, King's Ely to Parliament throughout the year.
